Practice and prepare

In our ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness and ensuring the safety of our campus community, Moreno Valley College conducts regular safety and lockdown drills. Drills are proactive measures designed to enhance our response in the event of a lockdown emergency, such as an active shooter. Drills are for training purposes only, and there is no cause for alarm.

Upcoming Lockdown Drill

The next upcoming lockdown drill will occur on Tuesday, May 14 at 10 am. This drill is mandatory and the entire campus will be participating. Please follow lockdown procedures.

What to Expect: Procedures

We expect active participation from all employees, faculty, students, management, and vendors during this drill. Your involvement will contribute significantly to our collective preparedness for any potential emergency situation. Lockdown drills should not take longer than 10 minutes.

Prepare for the Drill

  1. The MVC Safety team collaborates to identify potential lockdown locations. If you have questions, reach out to Tony Ruiz.
  2. Multiple pre-drill Zoom meetings occur to discuss the drill details and address any questions or concerns you may have. See the informational meeting schedule.
  3. Keep an eye out for in-person meetings as well, which may be helpful to those that will be on-campus during the drill.
  4. Ensure your enrollment and current phone number in the RAVE Mass Notificiation System, which is a District service that ensures notification during emergencies.

During the Drill

You will receive a notification via the RAVE mass notification system indicating the commencement of the lockdown drill and providing instructions on the necessary actions to take. Please adhere to the following essential steps:

  1. Move to the pre-determined lockdown location or find refuge in an enclosed room or office, ensuring the door is locked and/or barricaded.
  2. Turn off lights and maintain silence.
  3. Silence cell phone ringers.
  4. Avoid visibility from windows.
  5. Seek protective cover.
  6. Await further instructions or an "All Clear" notification via RAVE.

Informational Meetings

Feedback Opportunities

Following all drills, we will seek your feedback. Your input is invaluable and will be utilized to enhance Moreno Valley College's emergency preparedness protocols.

  • A brief survey will be emailed to employees.
