The Academic Success Center (ASC) offers writing support and feedback for all courses. From in-person visits to virtual video sessions to essay feedback, English faculty and peer writing consultants are available to offer feedback, guidance, and support at all stages of the writing process. Available writing services

The ASC is a one-stop shop that provides students with the help needed to ace their classes. An important part of writing is feedback, and the ASC writing team offers just that! Peer writing consultants and English faculty provide students with free, understandable feedback on all writing assignments, for any class, and at any point of the writing process.

What to bring for writing feedback

  1. Any writing assignments in any class, including but not limited to English, history, psychology, guidance, business and more.
  2. University admission essays, resumes, and personal statements.
  3. Reading comprehension for challenging or difficult texts from a reading paraprofessional.

When to ask for writing support

Our team can help even before you have something written, in ways that help you refine your writing skills.

  • Brainstorming
  • Reading and unpacking the prompt
  • Finding and integrating sources and ressearch
  • Writing a thesis, introduction or conclusion
  • Essay structure and organization

Access Writing Feedback

We're available in-person and online during ASC business hours. You can also email asc@mvc.edu for assistance.

  • Monday - Thursday: 9 am - 6 pm
  • Friday: 9 am - 4 pm
  • Saturday: 10 am - 2 pm

  • In-Person: Attend one-on-one sessions in the ASC, Humanities, Room 219.
  • Online: Use Pisces to meet virtually. Faculty and peer consultants are waiting in "One-on-One Live Rooms."
  • Written Feedback: Submit your writing assignment in Pisces with the paper drop-off. It will be reviewed and returned within 24 to 48 business hours and will be waiting in “Your Writing Locker.”
  • Virtual Workshops: Attend a virtual workshop on a variety of writing-related topics, hosted through Zoom.

How do I access Pisces?

Pisces is a Canvas-connected platform where you can access virtual academic support services. Logging into Pisces is as easy as 1-2-3!

  1. From any MVC Canvas course, select "Online Tutoring" from the left-hand menu.
  2. Select “Pisces,” which connects you to our local MVC services.
  3. Select “Writing” from the list of subjects and check out the options: drop-in video sessions during business hours, and a paper drop off to receive written feedback from faculty.
