About
The Associate in Arts Degree in Music provides students a systematic plan of study for developing skills in music theory, musicianship, music literature, collaborative performance, and keyboard proficiency. MVC also offers an Associate Degree for Transfer in Music.The Associate in Arts in Music program provides a general subject overview and allows students to pursue specialized study with transfer-ready courses.

Moreno Valley College offers associate degrees for transfer, guaranteeing admission as a junior to a local CSU with an aligned bachelor degree program.
Overview
This is an 24 to 32 unit program of study, not counting general education transfer requirements. Students may choose to also fulfill the CSUGE or IGETC general education pattern requirements if planning to transfer, and depending on where they plan to transfer to.

This program can be completed in 2 years, or 4 semesters (fall/spring). Students can decrease their semester course load by taking some required classes during the winter and summer terms instead.
Program completion within this time frame is dependent on the number of units enrolled per term and course availability. Full-time students are recommended to take 12-15 units per term. Meet with a counselor to develop your Student Educational Plan (SEP) to determine the appropriate general education pattern and work/life/school balance.
Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:

Demonstrate the ability to hear, identify and work conceptually with all elements of music through dictation, sight-reading, music analysis and basic keyboard proficiency.

Perform standard repertoire appropriate to their performance area as individuals or members of ensembles.

Successfully communicate within the music environment using notation, computer skills, written expression, and oral communication skills.
Associate of Arts
The Associate of Arts Degree in Music will be awarded upon completion of the degree requirements, including general education and other graduation requirements as described in the college catalog.
