The School of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) encourages and supports visual and performance artists in the development of their creative visions for producing and practicing art. Students can earn associate degrees, advanced degrees for transfer, as well as career certificates in a wide variety of fields including traditional and digital art as well as music.

Featured Spring Classes

What in particular will you be studying when you take a course at the School of VPA?

Practice an intermediate level of painting (oil or acrylic). You'll receive continued exploration of various techniques and the application of color theory and will further develop your visual, compositional, and creative skills. Students pay for their own materials.

Available spring 2025! Sign up for section 23003 on Mondays and Wednesdays, 11:20 am - 2:30 pm with Professor Synicky.

What composition techniques did Chopin, Wagner, Debussy, Stravinsky, and Varèse use? Continue your music theory journey in MUS-3 by diving into 20th and 21st century compositional techniques that build on the concepts you learned in MUS-2. In this class, you'll explore post-Romantic and post-tonal music through writing an analysis.

Honors courses can be taken even if you're not part of the Honors program with permission from the instructor and Honors coordinator. Plus, the Honors program enrolls new members year round.

An introductory course designed for the non-art major. The creative process and the diversity of styles, technique and media evident in various art forms throughout history and culture. Honors course offers an enriched experience for accelerated students through limited class size; seminar format; focus on primary texts; and application of higher level critical thinking skills.
