Black Student Success Week is a celebration of culture, advocacy, knowledge, and our Black college students hosted by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office. The theme for the year is Building a Better Future Together: the Urgency is Now. Moreno Valley College is joining in on the festivities with fun, social, and information-sharing events focusing on transfer, career opportunities, and culture. Every Mountain Lion student is invited to learn, grow, meet new friends, and enjoy delicious free food.

Monday, April 22
Step Up Your Transfer Game
Welcome Center, Room 172 from 1:15 - 3 pm
Join us to discuss how planning for transfer begins the first term in college. Learn the importance of transfer goals and what tools you need to have in order to develop a successful transfer plan. A Lion’s Choice value meal is available for all participating students all day from the Lion's Den.

Meet the Professionals: A Pathway to Success
Student Academic Services, Room 121 from 5 - 7 pm
Join us to connect with professionals and stay informed about industry trends. Come exchange ideas and information with successful local entrepreneurs and business minds about what it takes to be successful outside the classroom. Farmer’s Fridge is available for all participating students from 11 am - Noon.

MVC invites you to join to celebrate African-American/Black history with a game of Jeopardy. Shakey’s Pizza will be available to all participating students from 11 am - Noon.
Malcolm X Movie Night
Harkins Theaters, Moreno Valley Mall at 5 pm
Registration is required for attendance. Opportunity is available to the first 100 MVC home students. Sponsored by ASMVC Ethnic Studies and Umoja. A small movie theater snack pack will be provided; for additional snacks, bring extra funds. Movie starts at 6 pm.

Throughout the week, #TheBlackHour webinars will share insights and approaches for improving student success among Black and African American students in community colleges. These daily webinars are open to community college administrators, staff, faculty, practitioners, and students.
Daily, April 22-25: #TheStudentHour Webinar
This student-centered series focuses on the needs and resources available to help current and prospective college students succeed. Working with the California Community College Chancellor’s Office "I Can Go To College" campaign, #TheStudentHour webinars occur Monday through Thursday from 6 to 7 pm.
Thursday, April 25: #TheBLACKOUT Advocacy Day
Join us for Advocacy Day, an opportunity for stakeholders and interested parties to (VIRTUALLY) engage with local elected officials and key higher education policymakers to discuss priorities for ensuring Black student success. No prior legislative advocacy experience is needed. We will provide you with all resources, training, and supported needed to successfully participate.
