As part of a statewide initiative to improve and simplify transfer pathways, Moreno Valley College (MVC) will begin implementing the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) starting in fall 2025. Cal-GETC is a new general education framework that will make it easier for students to transfer from California community colleges to both California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) campuses.

Developed by the Intersegmental Committee of the Academic Senates (ICAS), Cal-GETC replaces the previous Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) and CSU GE-Breadth patterns with a single, unified curriculum. The goal is to eliminate confusion for students planning to transfer, reduce barriers to degree completion, and ensure academic consistency across institutions.

“This transition represents an exciting step forward in how we serve our students,” said Deanna Murrell, articulation officer at MVC. “By aligning with the Cal-GETC framework, we’re making the transfer process clearer and more accessible, giving students a stronger, more direct pathway to reaching their academic goals.”

Key Benefits for Students:

  • Simplified Planning: One general education pattern for both CSU and UC systems
  • Transfer Readiness: Aligned coursework that meets transfer requirements across public universities
  • Flexibility: Cal-GETC may also be recognized by private and out-of-state universities

Students who begin their studies at Moreno Valley College in fall 2025 or later will follow the Cal-GETC pattern to meet general education requirements. Students who enrolled prior to that date and have maintained continuous enrollment will still have the option to follow the existing IGETC or CSU GE-Breadth pathways.

MVC is actively working with faculty and counselors to align curriculum, update student education plans, and ensure that advising materials reflect the new requirements. The college is committed to providing clear guidance and ongoing support for current and prospective students as the transition approaches.
