Hundreds in the Community Turn Out for College's Open House

Families, alumni, and prospective students packed Moreno Valley College on May 17 for an open house that showcased academic programs, student services, and community partnerships.
Employee guides led hourly tours of classrooms, labs, and the iMAKE Innovation Center, while a resource fair on the campus quad connected guests with the Promise Program, College Corps, student government, Umoja, MESA, and more.
At the same time, parents gathered information on tuition assistance, transfer pathways, and career preparation while younger children participated in supervised play activities.
Performances by the MVC Music Club band, choir, Guitar Ensemble, and Ballet Folklórico from Lasselle Elementary provided continuous entertainment, followed by a disc jockey who concluded the program with an informal dance session. Cal Fire cadets from the School of Public Safety demonstrated a turnout gear drill, donning 30 pounds of protective equipment in under a minute.
During a Student Success Stories panel, four scholars described how campus resources helped them overcome financial and academic challenges. “I’m trying to build a better life for my daughter and future generations,” said Tiana, a student parent who credited college programs for providing critical support.

Sandra Martinez, dean of Enrollment Services and Engagement and chair of the Open House committee, said the event achieved its objective. “An open house allows our neighbors to envision themselves on this campus,” Martinez said. “It takes a collaborative effort—from faculty to facilities—to guide students from curiosity to commencement, and that teamwork was evident today.”
Aligned with Moreno Valley College’s new Together We Rise campaign, the open house showcased how collaboration between the college and its community clears obstacles and builds brighter futures together.
