    Learn More

Discover how registered apprenticeships can benefit you, whether you're a student, an employer, a community leader or in education.

National Apprenticeship Week is a nationwide celebration established by the U.S. Department of Labor where registered apprenticeship champions highlight how registered apprenticeship, a proven and industry-driven training model, provides a critical talent pipeline that can help address some of our nation's pressing workforce challenges such as rebuilding our country’s infrastructure, responding to critical supply chain demands, supporting a clean energy workforce, modernizing our cybersecurity response, and addressing care economy issues.

During National Apprenticeship Week, industry, labor, equity, workforce, education, and government leaders host events to showcase the successes and value of Registered Apprenticeship for re-building our economy, advancing racial and gender equity, and supporting underserved communities.

The events during this week highlight how this industry-driven training model provides a critical talent pipeline that can build up our workforce to address our nation’s pressing issues, which include responding to climate change, modernizing our cybersecurity response, addressing public health issues, and rebuilding our country’s infrastructure.

Registered apprenticeship is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where employers can develop and prepare their future workforce, and individuals can obtain paid work experience, receive progressive wage increases, classroom instruction, and a portable, nationally-recognized credential.

Registered apprenticeship is a work-based learning opportunity that can be instrumental in serving individuals who have been historically underserved, marginalized, and adversely affected by persistent poverty and inequality by allowing apprentices to earn while they learn and providing a pathway to well-paying careers.

Registered apprenticeship is a proven model that has been validated by the U.S. Department of Labor or a state apprenticeship agency. Registered apprenticeship provides a critical talent pipeline that can help to address some of our nation’s pressing workforce challenges such as responding to critical supply chain demands and supporting a clean energy workforce, modernizing our cybersecurity response, addressing public health issues, and rebuilding our country’s infrastructure.

Registered apprenticeship offers a path for all qualified individuals, including women, youth, people of color, rural communities, justice-involved individuals and people with disabilities, to become apprentices and contribute to America's industries.

Registered apprenticeship programs are distinguished from other types of workplace training models by several factors:

    • Registered apprenticeship programs are jobs from day one and apprentices earn family sustaining wages from their employers allowing them to earn and learn at the same time.
    • Registered apprenticeship programs provide structured on-the-job learning and job-related classroom training, some with articulation agreements with 2- and 4-year colleges including minority serving institutions.
    • Apprentices earn wage increases as they learn and gain new skills.
    • On-the-job learning is conducted in the work setting under the direction of a mentor(s).
    • Training results in a portable, nationally-recognized credential.

Apprenticeships can be found in all industries, such as building trades, clean energy, cybersecurity, healthcare, information technology, financial services, childcare, transportation, engineering, and advanced manufacturing.

    1. Registered apprenticeship is a proven model that fulfills critical talent needs. There are currently over 600,000 Registered Apprentices currently earning while learning across the country.

      • Improve productivity, profitability, and an employer’s bottom line; Create flexible training options that ensure workers develop the right skills;

      • Receive tax credits and employee tuition benefits in participating states; and to Increase staff loyalty and retention of workers, during and following the apprenticeship. For example, 92% of apprentices retain employment after completing an apprenticeship program.

    1. Registered apprenticeship also provides affordable paths to secure, high-paying jobs and careers without the typical student debt that has become associated with college.
    2. Registered apprenticeship offers career seekers the opportunity to earn a paycheck while learning from day one and gain workplace-relevant skills in the field of their choice.
    3. Workers who complete apprenticeship programs earn an average of $300,000 more over their career when compared to peers who don’t.
