About

Hello! I'm Rikki, and I’m excited to be your newest full-time professor in Communication Studies at Moreno Valley College.

I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Communication Studies from California State University, Fullerton, where I explored the worlds of relationships, sexuality, and humor. Later, I completed my Ph.D. at Arizona State University, where I focused on performance, sexual violence prevention, and arts-based research.

Growing up both neurodivergent and queer, I experienced shyness and anxiety—challenges I’m still familiar with today! Through my academic journey, I've learned the power of practicing communication skills in managing these challenges. Now, I'm committed to helping students, especially anyone who just feels different, develop effective communication skills to navigate both professional and personal aspects of their lives.

In my classroom, my priority is to create a welcoming, inclusive environment where students feel comfortable being themselves. Whether you’re looking to improve relationships, succeed at work, or simply express yourself more clearly, my goal is to equip you with the practical tools to thrive.

When I’m not teaching, you’ll probably find me playing Magic: The Gathering, lifting weights, attending plays, reading a good book, or cuddling with my little dog. I can’t wait to get to know you!
