Emergency Medical Services: Paramedic

Program Map

The Emergency Medical Services - Paramedic program prepares individuals, under the remote supervision of physicians, to recognize, assess, and manage medical emergencies in prehospital settings and to supervise ambulance personnel.

Students interested in the Paramedic program need to apply and be admitted into the Paramedic program. Admission to the program is not guaranteed.

Associate of Science

The Associate of Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services - Paramedic will be awarded upon completion of the degree requirements as described in the college catalog. This program is designed to be completed in two years (four semesters and one winter and summer session).

Program completion within this time frame is dependent on the number of units enrolled per term and course availability. Full time students are recommended to take 12-15 units per term. Meet with a counselor to develop your Student Educational Plan (SEP), determine the appropriate general education pattern and work/life/school balance.

Prerequisites

  • Complete EMS 50 and EMS 51
  • Earn a C average in BIO 45 
  • Have 6 months full-time experience or 1,000 hours of part time work experience as an EMT. At least 50% of this experience must be in pre-hospital setting. Work experience can be either paid or volunteer experience.
  • Current AHA CPR card (healthcare provider)
  • Have a High school diploma or GED

Certificate

The Paramedic Certificate will be awarded upon completion of program requirements as described in the college catalog. Certificates do not require students to complete general education requirements.

Prerequisites

  • Complete EMS 50 and EMS 51 (or have EMT certification)
  • Earn a C average in BIO 45 (or equivalent course)
