Disability Support Services (DSS)

Download a copy of the the mandatory training all Peer Note Takers are expected to complete.

 

Mission Statement

The Disability Support Services office is dedicated to providing equal access and reasonable accommodations for educational and programmatic opportunities to students with disabilities on campus while promoting self-advocacy and independence. Our mission commits Moreno Valley College to offer opportunities for students to develop their potential while also educating the campus community on disability related matters.

 

Services and Accommodations

DSS staff members act as liaisons to all areas of the campus to eliminate physical, academic and attitudinal barriers. Accommodations are determined based on the educational limitations of the documented disability. Accommodations and support services may include, but are not limited to:

  • Academic advising and career counseling
  • Test accommodation
  • Adaptive computer technology
  • Adaptive equipment loan
  • Alternate Media
  • Disability-related counseling
  • Note Taking Assistance
  • Priority registration
  • Real time captioning

Student Rights and Responsibilities

Rights

  • My participation in DSS shall be entirely voluntary.
  • Receiving support services or instruction through DSS shall not preclude me from also participating in any other course, program, or activity offered by the college or from receiving basic accommodations required by state and federal law.
  • DSS student handbook is online: The handbook describes DSS procedures, student rights, responsibilities, grievance procedures, eligibility requirements, accommodations and support services.
  • All records maintained by DSS personnel to my disability(ies) shall be protected from disclosure and shall be subject to all other requirements for handling student records.

Responsibilities

  • I will provide DSS with the necessary information, documentation and/or forms (medical, educational, etcetera) to verify my disability.
  • I will utilize DSS services in a responsible manner. I understand DSS uses written service provision policies and procedures, which must be adhered to, for continuation of service.
  • I will comply with the Student Code of Conduct adopted by the college.
