Mission

The mission of the Academic Counseling and Educational Support program (ACES) at Moreno Valley College is to promote the retention and graduation of low income, first generation and students with disabilities through tutoring, mentoring, skill development, and other services to empower them to graduate. Academic Counseling and Educational Support serves 140 students annually and is funded through a U.S Department of Education, TRiO Programs grant.

About Academic Counseling and Educational Support

The Academic Counseling and Educational Support (ACES) program offers qualifying students a strong academic support system and learning community that will assist them in mastering their college transitions. The primary goal of the program is to increase the retention and graduation rates of students who are committed to transferring to a four-year institution by increasing their access and opportunity to higher education. Academic Counseling and Educational Support serves approximately 140 students annually. They are chosen through an application and interview process.

How to Apply

Academic Counseling and Educational Support program participants are admitted based on a 3 step process:
Application - Interview - Orientation.

  1. Application - Students can download an application or pick up an application from Science & Technology, room 164 or 151-A. In addition to this 2 page application, students must submit documents to verify income. Acceptable documents are either a signed 2014 federal tax form 1040, or the 2015-2016 FAFSA summary available at www.fafsa.gov. COMPLETE applications can be submitted to SCI & TECH 164 or 151-A. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  2. Interview - All eligible students will be contacted via e-mail for an interview. The interview will last no more than 20 minutes. Those who are deemed ineligible will be notified via e-mail.
  3. Orientation - Those students who are offered admission are required to attend an orientation. Students who do not complete this orientation will have their admission offer rescinded. Upon completion of the orientation students will be placed on probationary status for a period of 1 semester. Orientation is required. Students will be notified of the orientation date two weeks in advance.
