Moreno Valley Unified School District to Honor UBMS Students

UBMS Students

At its regular meeting on September 24, the Moreno Valley Unified School District Board will honor 23 students who participated this summer in the Nanotech Chip Camp as part of Moreno Valley College's Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) program.

Last August the students were selected to attend the Nanotech Chip Camp, held yearly at UC Santa Barbara. With just 40 California students accepted each year, MVC's program accounted for over half of the class.

The UBMS program is designed to strengthen students' math and science skills and help them pursue careers in related fields. MVC's program--the only math and science combination program in Riverside County--is funded through a U.S. Department of Education grant in cooperation with Moreno Valley Unified School District. Last summer was the first year for program, which accommodated 60 Vista del Lago High School students.

Here is a list of students being honored, along with their high school class ranking as provided by Micki Poole Clowney, director, Upward Bound Math & Science. For more on the program and the eligibility requirements, please log on to: www.mvc.edu/services/ubms.
