MVC Faculty Member Selected as Panelists for
Congressman Takano's When Women Succeed,
America Succeeds Forum
Moreno Valley College's Bonavita Quinto-MacCullum, associate professor, Spanish Humanities and Social Sciences, will be a panelist for Congressman Mark Takano's forum - When Women Succeed, America Succeeds - on Thursday, May 15 at VFW Post 9223 beginning at 6:30 pm.
The purpose of the forum, which will be presented in Spanish, is to share the accomplishments of women in the Inland Empire community, demonstrating that women have a strong and robust participation in education and the workforce, Quinto-MacCallum said.
A 2014 report - Women's Participation in Education and the Workforce, Council of Economic Advisers - identified that there remains a gender gap between men and women. According to the report, full-time female workers earn 77 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts. In 2013, married women's earnings were on average nearly 45% of total family income.
The four-person panel will address the issues that impact the economy and millions of families locally.
"Personally, I am pleased and honored that Congressman Takano has asked me to share my educational and professional journey with our Spanish speaking community," Quinto-MacCallum said. "I hope that by sharing my experience, other Latinas can dream and know that any goal can be attained through hard work and persistence."
